Arsenal beat Aston Villa by 3 goals to 1 in the Premier League at the Emirates on Friday.

Thomas Partey opened the scoring for the Gunners after 23 minutes from a delightful corner kick. The ball glanced off his shoulder from a close range after Emile Smith Rowe set him up for the goal.

Bukayo Saka got a golden opportunity to make it 2 but he shot the ball straight at Emi Martinez who kept it out using his legs.

Arsenal earned a deserved second in stoppage time when Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang put back his own rebound after Emiliano Martinez denied an initial spot-kick following a Matt Targett foul in the area. The referee gave the penalty after a VAR check as Targett had gone through the back of Lacazette’s legs.

Emile Smith Rowe Was The Star For Arsenal Against Villa

Aubameyang’s flick sprang Emile Smith Rowe for the third goal for Arsenal. The England international made the most of this chance on the counter with his shot beating Martinez thanks in part to a deflection off the boot of Tyrone Mings.

Aston Villa managed to pull one back as Jacob Ramsey curled the ball into the net from 18 yards out. The ball fell to him at the edge of the penalty box but the comeback was out of their reach. Arteta saw out the match and earned all three deserving points.

The result lifted Arsenal up to 9th place in the table, having secured 14 points from 9 games thus far this campaign, while Villa is stuck in 13th on 10 points.
