Authorities were responding Tuesday to reports about an active shot in Jersey City, New Jersey, as stated by the ATF.
Law enforcement officials mentioned by NBC state one person with a long gun is shooting out of a bodega. The county’s SWAT team is reacting, NBC reported.
The gunfire is targeting individuals on the road; based on NJ.com, and neighboring Sacred Heart School is secured down, together with other people in the region.
“All staff and students are secure however a variety of colleges are on lockdown because of police action,” that the School District of Jersey City stated in a Facebook post.
Hudson County Sheriff’s Department, Jersey City Police, Newark FBI and Newark ATF were reacting to the scene, according to the USA TODAY Network. Authorities asked folks to steer clear of windows.
Many gunshots could be heard from the area.
Jersey City resident James Scott, 45, on Martin Luther King Drive and Wilkerson Avenue when he heard gunfire.
“I had been on the corner of Martin Luther King. The next thing you know there was shots shot. All of us ducked into the floor. I got from this,” Scott explained.
The New Jersey State Policemen’s Benevolent Association tweeted a concept of service to Jersey City authorities.
“We want lots of prayers at the moment for Jersey City officers. Keep those involved on your ideas,” that the NJSPBA stated in a tweet.
NJ Transit Police suspended bus service into the region, the department stated in a tweet.
