Kansas City Chiefs Say Travis Kelce Injury Not Long Term

Fans of Kansas City can look forward to some good news after the gloom on Travis Kelce’s injury. Media reports say that the tight-end has not picked up a long-term injury. But his status remains uncertain for the season opener on Thursday against Detroit.

Travis Kelce hyperextended his knee during practice on Tuesday. His team plans to allow the swelling to subside and then reevaluate. Kelce’s participation was deemed limited during the practice session on Tuesday as he limped off near the end of the session. Chiefs head coach Andy Reid did not give details on the severity of Travis Kelce’s injury at a short press conference, but he remains certain to miss Week 1 of the season.

Travis Kelce Is Definitely Out For Week 1

Despite being doubtful for the game against Detroit, Kansas City has something to smile about as Travis Kelce’s injury is not believed to be a season-ending one. He remains as potent a weapon in 2023 for quarterback Patrick Mahomes as always. Kadarius Toney, Moore, and Marques remain the best wide receivers on the Kansas team.

Travis Kelce is indispensable to the Chiefs. Last season he caught a career-high 110 passes for 1,338 yards and had 12 touchdowns, another career high. Travis also added 27 receptions for 257 yards and had 4 TDS helping the Chiefs win their 2nd Super Bowl in 4 years.

An official injury designation for Travis Kelce’s injury is not expected from the team until the Wednesday injury report. If Kelce is out of the team, 3rd-year tight end Noah Grey and season-veteran Blake Bell will have to take his place. Reid said that though not everyone was good to go, in such cases the next guy steps in and the team goes on with their game. Kelce limped off the field on his own, which is a sign that the injury is not too serious. It is believed that the injury occurred during a red zone period, a part of the final practice.
