Garmin Attacked By WastedLocker Ransomware In Demand For $10 Million

GPS technology and wearable device manufacturer, Garmin has been hit which is reportedly a cyber attack by WastedLocker ransomware. Garmin has suffered a massive outage owing to the attack and WastedLocker ransomware is now demanding $10 million to release all the lost data.

The GPS technology giant has been suffering from this outage since Thursday and worldwide consumers including pilots who use Garmin database services and Garmin Connect App users and all of the call centers are momentarily shutdown.

“We are currently experiencing an outage that affects Garmin.com and Garmin Connect. This outage also affects our call centers, and we are currently unable to receive any calls, emails or online chats. We are working to resolve this issue as quickly as possible and apologize for this inconvenience,” reads a Company statement.

In an FAQ session, the GPS Company has confirmed that the cyber attack has not affected any of their user data and is effectively planning to place a multi-day maintenance window to deal with the aftermath of this outage.

It has also reportedly shut down all employee computers and databases connected through a VPN to prevent ransomware from spreading further.
