The 2021 heavyweight championship saga took another unexpected turn when Tyson Fury and others in his camp test positive for the COVID-19 virus. That effectively postponed his fight with Deontay Wilder that was scheduled for July 24.

It was reported that Tyson Fury was among the first to test positive for the virus that has affected lives all around the world and continues to disrupt lives even a year and a half after the onset.

Tyson Fury Affected By The Virus But Stable

Tyson Fury has received the first dose of the vaccine but was yet to take his second shot. His camp reported that while he is sick, he isn’t serious, but they all remain aware of the potential of the virus.

Tyson Fury’s promoter Top Rank said that they continue to monitor his health condition and he continues to be sick but stable. Promoters are left with the problem of fitting in his schedule in their already busy calendar as getting a spot at the T-Mobile Arena is an issue.

A welterweight unification bout is already scheduled between Errol Spence Jr. and Manny Pacquiao on August 21. UFC has booked the arena for an event scheduled over the weekend around Labor Day. The Oleksandr Usyk vs Anthony Joshua fight is scheduled to be held on September 25.

A Tyson Fury –Joshua fight was initially scheduled over the summer. It would be a once-in-a-lifetime unification bout covering all 4 recognized major world titles. But it turned into a fight against Deontay Wilder who won the right to challenge Fury after a ruling by arbitration.

After the draw between Fury and Wilder in December 2018, Tyson Fury won by KO in February 2020. The loser was guaranteed a rematch that would guarantee the initial winner 60% of the winnings.

Wilder will now have to wait for his revenge bout.
