Apple and Google pledge to shut down coronavirus tracker when pandemic ends

Both Apple and Google have decided to double back on their ambitious project which involved contact tracing for coronavirus after reviewers pushed forward their feedback on how it can be improved.

The announcement accompanied a call wherein representatives of both companies promised that they would definitely disable this system after the pandemic was controlled. Although what remains to be seen is how they manage to disable such a huge network- they would have to go through with it region by region.

Some of the changes seem designed to address privacy concerns that came up after the initial release. Under the new encryption specification, daily tracing keys will now be randomly generated rather than mathematically derived from a user’s private key.
