Kate Brown, the Governor of Oregon, extended the state of emergency till July 6th via executive order.

On Friday, new plans were laid out by Brown regarding COVID-19 testing and contact tracing to ensure the safety of the people after the state reopens and slides into phase II.

Brown warned people that social distancing will remain a crucial part of our daily lives until a vaccine or cure arrives. She further added that reopening Oregon will take time. She also mentioned that the process will be gradual.

Brown went on to say that since in certain segments of the State new cases have become almost zero with a handful of hospitalizations. It is possible to reopen those areas as early as May 15.

However, Saturday witnessed a strange sight as hundreds of people gathered near Salem’s State Capitol to protest against the lockdown.

It was reported by the Associated Press that the protestors carried Trump campaign signs along with American flags. Some carried signs criticizing Brown, while some demanded Oregon to be reopened.

None of them were wearing any masks.
