Mateo Kovacic and Romelu Lukaku got on the scoresheet for the first time in Stamford Bridge as Chelsea managed a 3-0 victory over Aston Villa. After the result, Chelsea and Manchester United are now tied for first place in the Premier League.

Lukaku Makes A Statement On His Chelsea Home Return

The Blues’ match was the second debut for Lukaku at Stamford Bridge. He showcased his clinical brilliance in front of the goal as he finished a through ball from Kovacic in the 15th-minute mark. He then scored once more in the final minutes of the game. Kovacic scored his first Chelsea home goal as well in the 49th minute after an error from Villa defender Tyrone Mings.

However, the Blues did not have an easy time. In between Lukaku’s two goals, Villa had forced Edouard Mendy to make a series of fine saves in the first half. Thiago Silva was crucially blocked Ollie Watkins’ attempt after Mendy was beaten. However, the gift from Mings returned control to Chelsea. In the 94th minute, Lukaku drove the ball with his left foot to end the game.

The Blues put on a sketchy display during the first half. So much so, that Saul Niguez, who was playing his debut match, was subbed off during the half-time break. However, Chelsea thus remains unbeaten after 4 matches into the season. Aston Villa, on the other hand, now has 4 points from the 4 matches played.

The West London match had a frantic beginning. Marcos Alonso and Antonio Rudiger had their shots blocked and turned behind for corner kicks. On the other side, Konsa was off target with his header at the end of a spot-kick. Soon after, he diverted a corner from Chelsea into hitting his side’s bar.
