An earthquake of 4.5-magnitude rocked North Italy today with its epicenter near Coli, a region worst-hit by the pandemic.

The earthquake struck near Coli in Emilia-Romagna, located around 30 miles north-east of Genoa and 60 miles south of Milan.

Reportedly, 21,000 cases of Coronavirus cases have been registered in Emilia-Romagna. The epicenter is near the border with Lombardy which has 62,000 cases.

As per the US Geological Survey, the tremors were first felt at 11.42 am local time at a six miles depth near the epicenter. 

3,223 cases have been recorded in Coli, a commune in the province of Piacenza.

The wider region of Emilia-Romagna’s wider region recorded 21,029 cases and 2,788 deaths, higher than many other countries.

Lombardy, under lockdown since 8 March, has confirmed 62,153 cases and 11,377 deaths.

At present, 325 patients are in intensive care in Emilia-Romagna while Lombardy is looking at 1,074 cases.

Hospitals in Northern Italy are overflowing with patients, which has forced the doctors to make difficult decisions regarding those who should get intensive care treatment.

As per reports, the number of positive cases and deaths is lowering in Italy.
