NBA Teams, Including Hawks, On Alert After Boston Celtics’ Ascent

Boston Celtics

The crowd at TD Garden were screaming their support as loudly as they could when Derrick White took to the line as he aimed for his night’s point number 25 and 26. The chants shouted “MVP” for White – a term usually exclusive to Jayson Tatum, White’s teammate at Boston Celtics.

Boston Celtics And Derrick White In Stunning Form

The final score in the game between Boston Celtics and Atlanta Hawks stood at 119-106 in favor of the Celtics. After the game, Derrick inquired Tatum about his first experience getting the chant himself. Tatum replied with an affirmative. Boston Celtics are now 2-0 ahead in the playoff series in the first round. It would not be a stretch to say that White might once again feel like Boston Celtics is his home.

White’s and Tatum’s basketball careers are completely different. White was just about 6 feet tall and weighed 155 pounds when he was a senior in high school. This meant, there were no offers for scholarships for him. So, White settled for a stipend in one of Colorado’s 2nd Division Universities.

White remained there for 3 years. A late spurt in growth finally earned him the transfer to Boulder’s DI campus. In an opportune showcase event preceding the draft combine in 2017, San Antonio Spurs saw his worth and picked him up as their number 29 overall.

In 2022, the Boston Celtics acquired him, and have him at his latest home where he is showing flashes of brilliance. In their win in Game 1 that season, White scored 21 points while facing the Warriors. However, later on in the series, White was invisible. This season, though, is White’s full one with Boston. Now, he is excellent at punishing defenses that focus too much on Jaylen Brown and Tatum.
