Apple’s Macs might get Face ID, as potentially revealed by code in macOS Big Sur

The face recognition feature may not be new to technology, but would certainly be new to the Apple Mac if used. The lengthy process to type in a password and set up the Apple Watch to unlock automatically could be made easier in the future with the Face ID feature. The latest beta of macOS suggests so.

“The Face ID feature capable in devices such as iPhone 11 or iPad Pro is enabled by the TrueDepth camera,” says 9to5 Mac.

It is being supposed that the codename of TrueDepth camera is referred to in the new beta’s code and also has snippets mentioning “FaceDetect” and “BioCapture”. This comes at a time when apps can map faces and Zoom trends are spanning globally.

If the reports are to be believed and if this technology does make it to the Apple Macs, it could be in the latest version of Safari, which is all set to be shipped with Ios 14 and macOS Big Sur. It would also be interesting to see whether it could be extended to computers too.
