Washington — Chief Justice John Roberts released an unusual statement on Tuesday backing federal judges who have made rulings counter to the Trump administration, asserting that “impeachment is not a suitable response to disagreement” with a court’s ruling.
Roberts emphasized, “For over two hundred years, it has been recognized that impeachment is not an acceptable solution to disagreements regarding judicial decisions. The standard appellate review process exists for this purpose.”
This statement follows President Trump’s criticism of federal district judge James Boasberg on Truth Social, demanding his impeachment after the judge barred the use of the wartime Alien Enemies Act to detain and remove noncitizens.
