“No Evidence” That Recovered COVID-19 Patients Cannot Be Reinfected: WHO

WHO announced on Saturday, there is no proof on the information that recovered patients cannot catch the novel coronavirus a second time.

The UN agency, in a scientific briefing, alerted governments not to issue “immunity passports” or “risk-free certificates” to recently recovered patients as there is no evidence of their permanent recovery.

This comes as a word of caution for the recovered patients as well, as they might feel the tendency to avoid caution and advice. Disregarding precautionary measures might risk community transmission.

The statement also stands against those governments giving out “health passports” to once-recovered patients indicating that they don’t run the risk of re-infection and can safely resume work without worry.

Studies continue as experts add that cellular immunity is critical for recovery and protection from re-infection.
