The world’s second-biggest country has gone into lockdown as India shuts down its massive train system Monday and puts curfews in place to stop the spread of coronavirus.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi reported Tuesday that, “to save India,” the whole nation is going into lockdown for 21 days, with each resident restricted from leaving home. A day prior, Modi said individuals despite everything were not taking an existing lockdown seriously and called for states to follow the preventive measures issued by the national government to contain the virus.

“It would be ideal if you spare yourself, spare your family, adhere to the directions seriously,” Modi said Monday.

As of Tuesday morning, India had 469 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 10 deaths, as indicated by a count by Johns Hopkins University. Of all the cases revealed in the nation, in any event, 40 individuals have recuperated from the infection, as per the count.
