Gov. Cuomo blasted for claiming critics of his NY nursing home policy are ‘politically motivated’

In a recent interview with a late-night TV host, the governor of New York Andrew Cuomo said that the criticism he received for his handling of the pandemic is politically motivated.

In March, while the COVID-19 pandemic still saw lesser numbers, gov. Cuomo had asked nursing homes to take coronavirus positive patients in. Since then, he has received heavy backlash, some arguing that he exposed the most vulnerable to the disease.

In May, the governor had signed a policy reversing the same. Since then, he has ramped up the number of testing at nursing homes.

However, around 7,900 individuals have tested positive just in June. According to data released by the John Hopkins Coronavirus Resource Center, around 25% of the total deaths in New York have taken place in nursing homes.

On Friday, when the governor was asked for his opinion, he denied any responsibility and stood on his earlier statement. He said, “I think it’s the New York Post, I think it’s Michael Goodwin, I think it’s Bob McManus, I think it’s Fox TV. I think it is all politically motivated.”
