Ashley Park, Stephanie Hsu, And Friends Go On A Wild Trip In The Joy Ride Trailer

Joy Ride

She may not have scored a well-deserved Oscar for Everything Everywhere All At Once but Stephanie Hsu continues to be a star wherever she lands. She’s part of the ensemble for the new comedy Joy Ride the directorial debut of Crazy Rich Asians co-writer Adele Lim. Written by Cherry Chevapravatdumrong & Teresa Hsiao, Joy Ride is a story of identity and self-discovery focusing on four unlikely friends who embark on a one-in-a-lifetime international adventure.

When Audrey’s (Ashley Park) business trip to Asia goes sideways, she enlists the aid of Lolo (Sherry Cola), her irreverent, childhood best friend who also happens to be a hot mess, and Kat (Hsu), her college friend turned Chinese soap star and Deadeye (Sabrina Wu), Lolo’s eccentric cousin. As the red band trailer suggests, this is packed full of raunchy humor and plenty of drugs/sex references but honestly looks like a whole lot of fun.

Wide Red Band Trailer For Joy Ride With Ashley Park & Stephanie Hsu

Their no-hold-barred, epic travel experience becomes a journey of bonding, friendship, belonging, and wild debauchery that reveals the universal truth of what it means to know and love who you are. This looks like it gets wildly out of hand and completely outrageous, which is exactly the kind of raucous comedy this summer needs.

Joy Ride is directed by a Malaysian writer. Making her feature directional debut after working as a producer/writer for TV and as a screenwriter on Crazy Rich Asians and Raya and the Last Dragon. The screenplay is Cherry Chevapravatdumrong &  Teresa Hsiao, from a story by Cherry Chevapravatdumrong & Teresa Hsiao & Adele Lim. This is premiering at the 2023 SXSW Film Festival this month. Lionsgate opens Joy Ride in theaters nationwide starting July 7th, 2023.
