Despite a poor showing by his candidates, Donald Trump announced his bid for the 2024 US presidential election at his Florida home. The former US president’s announcement on Tuesday sets the stage for his third consecutive run for the White House in what promises to be a bruising nomination battle within the GOP following a pitiable midterm show by his chosen MAGA candidates.

Donald Trump’s hold on his party has been further weakened following the midterm debacle by his MAGA candidates. Speaking before hundreds of reports, the former president declared that the comeback starts now. The ballroom at Mar-a-Lago was ornately decorated for the occasion.

Donald Trump filed the approved candidacy documents with the authorities and immediately went public with the announcement. His unusual entry into the race for the top job is being interpreted as his desperate attempt to avoid criminal charges.

The Republicans have been stunned by the banal performance of the party at the midterms where they had hoped to wrest both the Senate and the House and also win over key gubernatorial posts including Arizona.

Donald Trump Will Face A Formidable Opposition Inside The GOP Headed By DeSantis

Donald Trump and his choice of election-denying candidates have been blamed for the abysmal showing at the midterms. Many insiders are questioning if Donald Trump’s divisive blend of politics and the legal mess he has created for the party will not harm the prospects of the party in the 2024 presidential elections.

Donald Trump’s opponents in the GOP are waiting for him to self-destruct. Among them is Ron DeSantis. The Florida Governor managed to buck the trend and retained his seat with a convincing victory.

Trump continues to face several inquiries into his acts before and through his term as the president between 2016 and 2020, and after he lost to Joe Biden.

It could ultimately lead to his disqualification. Charges against him include alleged fraud, his role in the January 6, 2020 riots in Washington, his attempts to upend the 2020 presidential election results, and his stealing of top secret documents and keeping them at his private property at Mar-a-Lago.

If he wins in 2024, he will be the 2nd American President to serve two non-consecutive terms, and also the first president who believes that he won all three.
