Egypt beams messages of solidarity on Great Pyramid

The words "stay home", "stay safe" and "thank you to those keeping us safe" are projected by coloured lasers onto the Great Pyramid.A message by the Egyptian government on Monday night was beaming on the great pyramid of Giza. The message is to motivate people to stay home, and to thank whom they help.

“Thank you to those keeping us safe”, “Stay at home” and “Stay safe”, said the messages in Arabic and English.

Messages of support are projected onto the Great Pyramid amid the coronavirus outbreak.

Egypt has the largest coronavirus death numbers in Africa – as 41 people have died of the coronavirus there. Also, it’s the second of confirmed cases – 656 – after South Africa, that has 1,326.

To stem the spread of the coronavirus the Egyptian government has locked tourist and religious sites, schools, and universities as well. There is also a night-time curfew.

Tourism and Antiquities Minister Khaled al-Anani told reporters in Giza: “The tourism sector is one of the most affected industries, but our priority is health.”
