Gregg Popovich Has Agreed To An Extension Deal For 5 More Years

Gregg Popovich

Gregg Popovich, one of the most successful coaches in the NBA, is going to be the highest-paid league coach for yet another year. The longtime coach of the San Antonio Spurs recently agreed to a 5-year deal that would see him net more than 80 million.

This salary would push Popovich over Monty Williams, the head coach for the Detroit Piston- as the coach with the highest payment in the league. Previously, both the head coaches of the San Antonio Spurs and the Detroit Pistons were second on the list with $11.5 million per year. Any hardened fan of the game would know that Popovich deserves every cent that he receives- even though he is 74 and last won the NBA 9 years ago.

Gregg Popovich Is Now The Highest Paid Coach In The NBA

Although Gregg Popovich’s team has been struggling to cope after the Tim Duncan era, they are looking at a pole position this year, especially with the inclusion of Victor Wenbayama, who is being hailed as a generational talent.

The Frenchman seemed to be in great spirits as he was picked up by the Spurs, and a big credit for that could be given to Popovich, who appears to have an excessive amount of success while coaching Wenbayama’s compatriots- Boris Diaw and Tony Parker. If the team manages to assimilate Wenbayama into the league properly, they could be looking for a great position this year- and Popovich is the man for the job.

Gregg Popovich does top the NBA all-time win list, with 1366 wins, 5 championships, and three NBA Coach of the Year awards. David Robinson and Duncan, he has highlighted that he has the capability of taking the team to the top. He has also shown that he can not only turn No.1 picks into stars, but also Hall of Famers. And with Wenbayama looking to join that illustrious rank, who better than Popovich?
