The state of New Mexico will be providing a direct stimulus check to eligible residents. This stimulus check comes as a monetary assistance and relief to New Mexicans, as the US continues to face inflation. Similar stimulus check payments are being provided by numerous other states to their respective residents. This stimulus relief is being paid out as tax refunds to eligible residents. Residents who had previously filed their 2021 tax refunds are considered to qualify for this payment. 

The payment amount of this tax refund is $ 500 for residents who have filed individually, while for joint filers, the amount is $ 1,000. The stimulus payments have already started being paid out from June 20 and will continue till June 29. New Mexico residents who claim the stimulus check, may note that if the address of the filer has changed since their 2021 tax filing, they can update their present address on the official website of the state’s Taxation and Revenue Department. Claimants may access the self-service portal of the Taxpayer Access Point and update their new address, claimants can also update their address by physically visiting the state department. As the 2021 tax failing is vital for this stimulus check, residents had a deadline of May 31 to file. This stimulus payment comes as a result of a fiscal year surplus, now the state will payout $ 673 million to its residents.
