It took them almost fifty years. However, Furman is finally close to win another trophy in the NCAA tournament. Furman achieved this amazing feat of reaching the NCAA finals in a crazy fashion full of drama. Garrett Hien caught a wayward pass and he launched a counter attack passing the ball to JP Pegues. Pegues took the ball to get a three pointer shot that turn their two point deficit into a one point lead over Virginia to win the game. It is Furman’s first victory in the tournament since they won it last time in 1974.

The head coach of Furman said that it is an unbelievable moment for the team. Bob Richey the head coach added that this is a great day to be a Paladin supporter. An interesting fact about the head coach of the team is that he wasn’t even born when Paladin got their last appearance in the tournament back in the 1980s.

It was a great game for Pegues who won the match for the Paladins. The guard missed his last three-pointer attempt that could have costed them the game. However, He finally succeeded to score the three-pointer that won them the game and will also go in to the books as one of the best three-pointer shots in the history.

Pegues said that when he saw Hien intercepting the pass, he wanted the ball. He said that he felt like these are the moments that he imagined for his whole life and that is what he has prepared for. So, when he got the ball, and saw his chances of taking a three-pointer attempt, he knew he had to get it right.
