Kamala Harris, the Vice President of the country, called for a ban on assault weapons on Saturday- stating that such assault weapons had no place in a civil society. Speaking to reporters in New York in the wake of school shootings, Harris mentioned that she would reiterate what she has already said countless times- they are not going to wait to figure out what the situation would look like. They were not really waiting for a vaccine. The answer was simple- ban assault weapons.

Kamala Harris went on to speak quite passionately about why an assault weapon was not needed in a civil society. She mentioned that an assault weapon was created to kill a lot of people very fast- so there was absolutely no reason why it should be introduced and adopted in civil society. The comments from the Vice President come at the same time the country has been reeling from several mass shootings. The first one took place in Buffalo- where 10 people were killed in a racist mass shooting. The second took place in Uvalde, Texas- where 19 children and two teachers were shot dead.

Kamala Harris had also called for enhanced background checks for clients purchasing firearms. She went on to note that this was extremely important- for not even half of the year had passed, but the country had already seen 200 mass shootings. She believes that everyone would have to stand up and agree that this can’t keep happening in the country. The nation has to develop the courage to actually do something about this problem.

Incidentally, Kamala Harris decided not to respond to a question about the decision of President Joe Biden if Congress failed to pass gun reform. The reporter went on to ask if the President would be looking toward an executive order or something similar to that.
