With a Game 5 victory over the Chicago Sky, the Connecticut Sun eliminated the Sky from the WNBA playoffs. However, head coach Curt Miller might have been in too much of a joyful mood.

Miller talked about defeating the Sky in three of the previous four years after the game. He specifically emphasized how in three of the previous four years, his trio of Alyssa Thomas, Jonquel Jones, and Bri Jones defeated Candace Parker.

Candace Parker Responded To Miller’s Statement

When Candace Parker heard those remarks, he responded harshly:

The Connecticut Sun is headed to the WNBA Finals and has a motto of “We won a title last year, we do not hang conference banners.”

In their semifinal game against the Chicago Sky on Thursday night, Jonquel Jones and co. trailed by as many as 11 points in the fourth quarter before going on an 18-0 run to defeat the defending champions and move to their first championship series since 2019. Curt Miller, the head coach of the Sun, had a lot to say about it and tried to make his stars look better by mentioning one of the rival players.

Candace Parker, a two-time league MVP, played for the Los Angeles Sparks for the first 13 years of her stellar WNBA career. She enjoyed great success with the team, including a championship in 2016, but her time in Hollywood came to an abrupt end after back-to-back playoff losses to Connecticut.

Candace Parker relocated to Chicago in 2021, and in her first year back there, she helped the Sky win the league’s inaugural WNBA championship. And although the fact that missing out on a repeat was obviously disappointing, the six-time All-Star was not going to stand by and let Miller bring up her name without responding. Candace Parker did, however, compliment the three post players from Connecticut Miller referenced, saying that “they did a terrific job” in terms of defense throughout the back-and-forth series.
