Lawmakers Set For Tearful Goodbye To John Lewis

Lawmakers begin to bid adieu to the late Civil Rights fighter and (D-Ga.) Rep. John Lewis on Monday. He is granted the precious honor of lying in the Capitol while others pay their tributes to one of the most respected members of Congress.

The solemnities which are to begin on Monday will be the much-needed break from the recent series of jumpy days on Capitol Hill. After the fall out between Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and a GOP lawmaker who addressed her using a sexist slur, and the slow progress of the much-needed coronavirus relief stimulus package, John Lewis’ goodbye rituals will remind the Capitol what needs to be done.

“It’s so interesting that he left us at this time,” said Rep. Robin Kelly (D-Ill.) “It’s almost like a reminder. You know, we’re giving this man so many accolades while we need to walk his talk, like he did.”

Kelly, who also sported a mask which was emblazoned with Lewis’ motto “good trouble” also said, “He was so patient and gracious and forgiving. And we need to be a little more like that.”
