According to the White House, President Joe Biden is to sign an administrative order shortly prohibiting commercial interaction between US citizens and the 2 separatist areas of east Ukraine that President Vladimir Putin acknowledged as autonomous states on Monday.

Putin’s endorsement of the territories held by rebels might open the way for Russia to send armed forces into the 2 regions -Luhansk and Donetsk- and claim to be acting as a supporter to defend them from Ukraine.

Joe Biden Will Not Allow Trade Between The US And The Breakaway Regions

The prohibition order will be signed by Joe Biden, who stated that Russia’s commitments under the Minsk agreements further threaten Ukraine’s peace, stability, sovereignty, and territorial integrity, and thus pose an unusual and extraordinary threat to America’s national security and foreign policy.

According to ANI, the US and its allies called an emergency meeting of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) on Ukraine on Monday.

Notably, Putin signed a proclamation on Monday recognizing the independence of the separatist republics of Donetsk and Luhansk. During a televised speech to Russians, Putin made this statement.

Following the news, the US stated that it will shortly levy sanctions on two separatist areas in Ukraine backed by Russia. Putin’s decision to recognize the “so-called Donetsk and Luhansk People’s Republics” as “independent” was harshly opposed by the United States of America.

Ukraine’s request for an Urgent Meeting of the UN Security Council was backed by US Ambassador to the UN Linda Thomas-Greenfield. She slammed Russia’s declaration, claiming it was a hoax and a pretext to attack Ukraine again.

Putin has also authorized the deployment of Russian forces to Ukraine’s separatist regions, acknowledging their independence in his Monday speech to the country.
