Israel airliner uses Sudan’s airspace, while another flight lands for the first time – Middle East Monitor

An Israeli El Al Airlines aircraft flying from Buenos Aires crossed through Sudan’s airspace on Thursday, the first industrial Israeli airliner to do so, according to The Times of Israel, as a prospective sign of enhancing relations in between Israel and Sudan.

The El Al flight significant ELY046, was seen on flight tracker website flightradar24 going into Sudan’s airspace around 18: 30 UTC, about 12 hours after it removed from Buenos Aires, and was arranged to land in Tel Aviv a couple of hours later on.

According to the Times of Israel‘s source, Sudanese authorities sought to minimise the attention the flight would get, insisting that the flight be delayed so that it would only enter Sudan’ s airspace after the nation’s night news ended.

If access to Sudan’s airspace ends up being irreversible, it would enable for direct flights in between Israel’s Ben Gurion Airport and Argentina’s Buenos Aires to be reduced by some 2 hours.

Although this was the first Israeli industrial airliner to get in Sudanese airspace, it was not the first Israeli airplane to do so. There was a flight that utilized Sudanese airspace, back in February 2020, while an unknown Israeli airplane got in and landed in Sudan recently.

Last week, Israel Radio’s diplomatic reporter covering Arab affairs, Simon Aran, revealed that an Israeli aircraft landed in Khartoum International Airport, without exposing who was on board and the function of landing in the Sudanese capital.

Sudanese sources verified that a personal foreign aircraft landed at Khartoum International Airport, and among the sources revealed that: “It was in the airfield, at a time when Sudanese government officials refused to answer questions about the side that the plane belongs to.”
