Kamala Harris, the Vice President of the country, went on to draw a connection between the Supreme Court that overturned Roe v. Wade, with the US government trying to claim ownership over humans. This speech was delivered at the Essence Festival in New Orleans. Regarding the high court’s elimination, last month of the federal constitutional right to an abortion, Harris maintained that this was a serious matter. And it definitely required every single individual to speak up and be heard at the same time.

Harris had made an appearance at the Festival to join in on a fireside conversation with Keke Palmer, before the audience of several hundred people at one of the largest African American cultural celebrations in the country.

Kamala Harris Speaks About How Overturning Roe v. Wade Is Problematic

During this conversation, Kamala Harris went on to discuss the cyclical fight for civil liberties along with the urgency to never take any right that appears to be protected as granted- for as they were witness to one such settled law getting overturned all over the nation. The Vice President also called out the high court restricting abortion access. She mentioned that the elimination of the law after 50 years of precedent was definitely quite problematic on a lot of levels- and also noted that this decision would be benefiting the disproportionately low-income communities.

Kamala Harris stated that the government had taken a stance that entailed that they had the right to come inside your home and tell you as a woman what to do with your own body. She further mentioned that it was high time that people realize that their country was founded on certain principles which were grounded in the concept of liberty and freedom.
