Klopp: Liverpool winning Club World Cup would be ‘like landing on the moon’

Jurgen Klopp along with his Liverpool side wish to create history against Flamengo in Doha on Saturday.

Liverpool director Jurgen Klopp said winning the Club World Cup will be”like landing on the moon” because the Reds seem to assert the contest for the very first time.

Champions League holders Liverpool fulfill Copa Libertadores winners and Brazilian giants Flamengo at Saturday’s Club World Cup final in Doha.

Among the most decorated clubs in soccer with 18 league titles and six European Cup/Champions League decorations, Liverpool haven’t won the Club World Cup.

Liverpool lost the Intercontinental Cup — pitting the Champions League winners from Libertadores holders — in 1981 (Flamengo) and 1984 (Independiente) until it merged with the Club World Cup at 2005. The Reds lost to Sao Paulo that season.

“I really don’t understand the way you approach something which has never been done before — it’s like landing on the moon,” Klopp informed reporters.

“It means more to these [fans in South America] but to the gamers? No,” Klopp included of his group, who direct the Premier League. “Can it mean more to Tottenham from the Champions League final? More importantly Chelsea [in the Super Cup final]?

“If our boys play soccer they show each time they would like to win. Is it a benefit the entire nation or continent needs Flamengo to acquire it longer? I really don’t understand. Mexico wanted to acquire it more than individuals in England and we conquer their group, so we’ll see.

“For the players it’s no issue. We talked about it a couple of weeks back and asked did they wish to play with it? It was not that they could pick but how can you view it? They said:’We proceed!’ Ever since that time it has never changed.

“The boys are 100 percent clear. They did not need Ali [Alisson] telling them Bobby [Firmino] telling them Fabinho telling them about the importance. They’re footballers, they’re sportsmen and they wish to win whatever they could.

“It’s the way that it seems: the group World Cup winner. You do not often get the opportunity to do this and for the majority of them, together with the states they perform , they never have a opportunity to win a World Cup so this is the only opportunity. For me personally too. However, who cares about me personally? I do not feel tension but I believe a very major chance and I wish to get it done.”
