Peter Green: Fleetwood Mac Co-Founder Dies Aged 73

Co-founder of Fleetwood Mac and legendary blues-rock guitarist, Peter Green passes away this week at the age of 73.

A statement issued on behalf of Peter’s family reads, “It is with great sadness that the family of Peter Green announces his death this weekend, peacefully in his sleep.” The declaration also mentions that a further statement will be provided in the upcoming days.

The late blues guitarist, originally from Bethnal Green, London, formed Fleetwood Mac in 1967 with drummer Mick Fleetwood. The duo later convinced John McVie to join in as a bass guitarist and named the band combining both their names.

The band instantly achieved fame after their ever-hit track, “Albatross” and other early hits like “Black Magic Woman” and “Oh Well.” Also going by the name Peter Green’s Fleetwood Mac, the band produced three albums under Green’s direction.

Later Green was diagnosed with schizophrenia and was hospitalized thereafter.

The news of Green’s death comes only days after the band announced their new release, a retrospection of their early years.

Other celebrities like David Coverdale, Winston Marshall, David Morrissey, and Midge Ure have paid their tribute to the legendary guitarist through tweets and posts. Millions of fans also paid their respects online.
