Manchester United was stunned by Sevilla as it squandered a two-goal lead and struggled to manage a draw in the 1st leg of the Europa League quarterfinal tie. The goals by Sevilla were a result of blunders first by Tyrell Malacia and Harry Maguire.

Manchester could well rue the fact that they failed to finish Sevilla in the first leg and then let in two silly goals. A terrible blunder by Malacia led to the Dutchman scoring their own goal and inspiring Sevilla to desperately try for the equalizer, which they eventually did.

It was another own goal that handed Manchester United an undeserving draw after Maguire unwittingly glanced a header into his own goal.

Manchester United is now up against the Spanish team in the tense atmosphere of Sanchez Pizuan. It will take a lot of inner strength for the visiting Manchester United as they will be without at least three key players. While Bruno Fernandes has been suspended for the next match, Lisandro Martinez and Raphael Varane could also be absent with injuries they picked up in the match.

Manchester United Have A Bad Recent Record Against Spanish Teams

The last five eliminations for Manchester United have come against  Spanish teams. The loss at the hands of Sevilla will surely rank higher. The losses started with the meek defeat to Athletico Madrid last year. It was followed by the final heartbreak at the hands of Villarreal in the Europa League.

A surrender to Barcelona was followed by two knockdowns by Sevilla. The first of the losses will count as one of the most humiliating in the present era.

This time Manchester United under Mourinho was expected to smoothly advance past Sevilla which is languishing in the sixth position in La Liga. They also have a negative goal count in the domestic league.
