Lionel Messi To Join MLS Side Inter Miami

Lionel Messi

The latest in Lionel Messi’s extremely feathered cap of achievements has happened. One of the greatest to ever grace the sport of football is now going to play in the United States of America. He is set to join the Major League Soccer side Inter Miami.

Is This The End For Lionel Messi In Europe?

There have been several months, and years, of speculation regarding a move by Lionel Messi to the American league. However, it has finally happened. David Beckham, another legendary figure of the game, and the owner of Inter Miami, is believed to have a hand in convincing the Argentine superstar. Beckham’s side, however, does not have any significant achievements in competitive play.

Beckham, and all of Inter Miami’s fans, can now hope and perhaps expect those fortunes to inevitably change now. Jorge Mas, another Inter Miami owner, had posted a jersey of Messi with a dark silhouette on his Twitter. Shortly afterward, the player announced the news by himself in an interview with Sport and Mundo Deportivo, a news outlet from Spain.

Speculation had fans mostly believe that Messi’s next destination after PSG would be the Saudi side Al-Hilal. It would be similar to the move made by Cristiano Ronaldo in the previous season to the Saudi Pro League. Another more emotional option would have been a return to Barcelona. After all, the Catalans are where he spent almost his entire career from its academy to its greatest heights and even well into the recent dip in the form of the club.

However, Lionel Messi’s MLS decision has come as a surprise to quite a few. Neither did he choose the financial option of going to Saudi Arabia, nor did he go back to his memories. He chose Inter Miami. His debut for the club will probably not happen till July.
