More Than A Third Of Coronavirus Patients Feel Symptoms For Weeks, CDC Says

The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) announced that coronavirus symptoms can stick around even after weeks of recovery or even in mildly positive cases.

The analysis is based on a survey of 292 people among which a whopping 35% mentioned that they didn’t return to their usual healthy self even after 2-3 weeks.

Though prolonged symptoms are more common in older people, this CDC study suggests that younger people are also suffering from prolonged sickness.

On Friday, FDA authorized the first diagnostic test to be used for asymptomatic or even people with no exposure to risk. A vaccine is a long way off suggests Dr. Anthony Fauci. Therefore this step taken by FDA can be crucial in enabling the reopening process.

“FDA’s authorization … is a step toward the type of broad screening that may help enable the reopening of schools and workplaces,” FDA Commissioner Dr. Stephen Hahn said in a statement Friday.

A guideline released by CDC on Thursday also includes measures for reopening schools. Dr. Fauci supports these measures. He calls them “a sound set of guidelines.”

Dr. Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, said that even if a vaccine candidate is successful by year’s end, it would be several months — well into 2021 — before vaccination is widespread.
