Saturday Night Live closed out its season on May 9. Following coronavirus social distancing rules, the show broadcast scenes recorded by its cast staff at home for its most recent couple of weeks. The season finale opened with a Zoom sketch of a graduation ceremony for the class of 2020, with Alec Baldwin making an unexpected return as Donald Trump.

Most understudies of St. Mary Magdalene by the Expressway High School were generally apathetic over Trump being an extraordinary visitor speaker and complimenting them as the “class of COVID-19.”

As he started his virtual initiation discourse, Baldwin’s Trump referenced he needed to do his own cosmetics, driving him to watch a “Liza Minnelli makeup tutorial.” Despite any makeup snafus, he was still honored to be the “vale-dictator.”

Chris Redd and Kenan Thompson’s characters attempted to interfere with the president. However, Baldwin’s Trump immediately quieted the “jazz types.” He proceeded to tell the understudies they are “fortunate” to graduate particularly when “there are so many exciting new jobs out there, like grocery store bouncer, camgirl, porch pirate, amateur nurse, and coal.”

Baldwin’s Trump likewise offered some tips to the graduating class. “I started as the son of a simple wealth slumlord and then became the president,” he said. “Live every day like it’s your last because we’re gonna let this virus run wild.”

Formerly, the at-home scenes of the show have featured Brad Pitt as Anthony Fauci as well as other visitor stars like Paul Rudd and Adam Sandler.

After the cold open, host Kristen Wiig took over as the finale’s surprise guest host.
