The Ingenuity Helicopter and the Perseverance Rover have finally started their mission towards Mars. The spacecraft was launched aboard a rocket from Cape Canaveral, Florida at 7.50 am- the spacecraft contains the rover and the helicopter. Two students who named the rover and helicopter, Vaneeza Rupani and Alex Mather, were also present at the time of the launch.

While the Jet Propulsion Lab at Pasa Dena did face some earthquake prior to the launch, they authorized the launch realizing it wouldn’t impact it much. I’m exceptionally excited about what we’re about to do because we’re going to launch Mars 2020 with the Perseverance robot,” said NASA Administrator Jim Bridenstine during a press briefing at Kennedy Space Center.

Interestingly, this is the first time ever in history that a vehicle was launched into space with the sole purpose of finding life on Mars. The journey will take close to 7 months, and the rover is said to land at the Jezero crater on February 7, 2021.

This entire mission is a testament to the hard work, passion, and zeal that thousands of scientists, researchers, and other workers at NASA have shown for the last decade.
