Saints Will Probably Start Jameis Winston For Week 1

Saints’ Jameis Winston is an experienced quarterback who was once the overall No. 1 draft pick. Jacksonville Jaguars, on the other hand, had ended last season 1-15 and a head coach who is managing the position for the first time in NFL. It was expected that the Saints’ QB would destroy them, which he did.

Winston Is The Clear Favorites For Saints’ QB Spot

Jameis Wilson lived up to expectations of being a competent starting QB for the Saints. He completed 9 out of the 10 passes, ran for 123 yards, and scored 2 touchdowns as the Saints defeated the Jaguars 23-21. New Orleans scored two times in the 3 drives that he was playing. His case for being the permanent replacement for Drew Brees, the franchise legend, was strong.

The Saints had acquired 27-year-old Winston for a cheap $1.1Mn. They had wanted to let Brees teach him as he played his final year. In 2021, he was resigned for $12Mn, after the Saints were satisfied with his improving consistency.

On Monday, he was a New Orleans starter for the first time and did take anything for granted. He said that he missed the feeling in the past year, and he was grateful for the opportunity. He then went on to praise his coaches, offensive line, and Callaway – an undrafted Tennessee rookie who appears to be a fabulous acquisition.

The Jaguars were hapless, and a pre-season victory is not ensuring anything. But Winston’s performance means his days in Tampa might be behind now. At the very least, Sean Payton, the coach, should have an easy decision as to who starts in the first season game.

Against Baltimore, Winston was far less impressive. As a result, Taysom Hill might have had a chance to take the spot. Against the Jaguars thought, Winston was the better option.
