Manchester City has built up a dominant lead after the first round of the Champions League quarters against visitors Bayern Munich. They head to Germany after beating the German champions 3-0 at home on Tuesday.

Manchester City blew the Germans away with a scintillating performance in the second half after Rodri’s wonder goal in the 27th minute. Two goals in 6 minutes from Bernardo Silva and Haaland highlighted an electric performance from the Norwegian as he also assisted Silva’s goal.

Pep Guardiola’s side could have scored more but for a series of stunning saves from Bayern goalkeeper Yann Sommer. But though Guardiola will feel frustrated at the plenty of changes that were wasted, the City supreme will also be ecstatic at the exciting performance against the tournament favorites.

It was especially sweet against a team helmed by Thomas Tuchel, who ousted City in the final in 2021.

Manchester City Have Been Exceptionally Strong In Defense In This Campaign

Such a commanding win placed Manchester City in a commanding position and on the way to a well-deserved spot in the semis. And the Blues relished their win on Twitter, gushing that history was rewritten here at the Etihad.

Bayern Munich had an uncharacteristic off night and gifted City some chances with a string of uncharacteristic errors.

But it is also worth noting that Pep has put together a complete squad, particularly his signing of Thiago Alcantara.

While the focus has all along been on the Manchester City forwards, especially Haaland, it is their defense which has grown to become the key that could finally get them the Champions League.

Pep’s forwards have always featured among the goals, but have also let in an awful lot in past Champions League games. Their exit in the past years has always been marked by a sloppy defense. But they managed to keep a clean sheet in 6 of their last 8 matches.
