Mason James Lira, 26, shot 3 police officers Thursday and one on Wednesday prior to he was fatally injured while attempting to leave his concealing area in a riverbed, the constable’s press release stated.
Lira, who authorities think killed a 58- year-old guy near an Amtrak station on Wednesday, passed away at the scene, the constable stated.
The officers remain in excellent condition with non-life threatening injuries.
The manhunt started early Wednesday after Lira started shooting outside a police headquarters in Paso Robles and shot among the reacting deputies in the face.
The constable’s workplace stated Lira had 2 pistols.
Attack on police headquarters
Deputy Nicholas Dreyfus, 28, was shot Wednesday when Lira opened fire outside a police headquarters in Paso Robles, according to the constable.
Dreyfus was shot in the face Wednesday while looking for the suspect, however the constable’s workplace states his surgical treatment achieved success and he’s noted in secured condition and the diagnosis is excellent.
“We feel that this was an ambush that he planned,” San Luis Obispo County Sheriff Ian Parkinson stated about the suspect. “He intended for officers to come out of the police department and to assault them.”
Lira supposedly started shooting at patrol car quickly after 3 a.m. PT (6 a.m. ET) as they got in the downtown location and at the station, Parkinson stated.
Dreyfus was shot when he got here to help authorities officers at the station, the constable stated.
Hours after the shooting, authorities discovered the body of a 58- year-old guy near an Amtrak station in the city. The guy had actually been shot in the head “at close proximity” and detectives think the occurrences relate, the constable’s workplace stated.
