Is Mauricio Pochettino Really The Right Man To Replace Ole Gunnar Solskjaer At Manchester United?

Ole Gunnar Solkjaer’s reign at Manchester United has been littered with critics claiming that the job is too big for him. However, despite those disputes, the Norwegian has still been able to lead the club to famous nights in Europe against Paris Saint-Germain and RB Leipzig recently. Those results may not be enough to save the United boss, as the pressure begins to build to a different intensity, and there are rumours that he could be fired as soon as Monday depending on United’s result against Everton.

Some bookies such as bet-iowa.com already have Mauricio Pochettino as the heavy favourite to replace Solskjaer, and that has been the case for the last couple of months. But, is the former Tottenham Hotspur manager the man that could bring success back to Old Trafford?

Pochettino Reportedly On The Verge

There has been no secret made about the United board’s admiration for Pochettino, as his reputation in the game soared after he led Tottenham Hotspur to their first-ever Champions League final at the end of the 2018-19 season. However, he was given his marching orders by the club after a poor start to the following season, and over the past 12 months, there has been pressure on Solskjaer to improve results with the shadow of Pochettino looming in the background.

There doesn’t seem much doubt that Pochettino has set his sights on the United job, and there is an immediate feeling that he has the players at his disposal to build something special. Pochettino was able to take players such as Harry Kane, Christian Eriksen and Dele Ali to new levels when he was the manager at Spurs, and there’s no reason why he can’t do the same with Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial and Mason Greenwood. Developing players is what Pochettino does, and with the youthful squad that United have, Pochettino will have an enormous amount of talent to work with.

Does It Solve All The Problems?

Pochettino’s announcement will likely breath new hope into a United season that already looks to be in danger of falling away, but fans of the Old Trafford club will know that the problems at the club run far deeper than the man sitting in the dugout. There is a feeling that regardless of the manager, the club could be destined to fail, as the board have refused to back bosses at the most pivotal moments.

This stems back to the start of Jose Mourinho’s third season in charge of the club, as the board refused to sign a defender that he desperately craved to stop United conceding goals. The similarities with Solskjaer’s most recent summer are uncanny, as the board once again didn’t back the boss with the one signing that he believed could take United to the next level. It’s unknown where United could be right now if the board brought in Jadon Sancho over the summer, but it’s important that the hierarchy at Old Trafford go all-in if they decide that Pochettino is the long-term manager that will bring much-needed success back to Old Trafford.
