Chelsea End Their Winning Streak Against Everton

Chelsea

The winning streak that Chelsea had created over three games came to an abrupt halt when they faced a tough Everton side at Stamford Bridge on Saturday. The Toffees battled throughout the game and managed to make a comeback from the 2-1 deficit, to end the match at 2-2.

The hosts had taken the lead after Joao Felix, the Portuguese golden boy, made a subtle finish three minutes after halftime, but Everton managed to hold on, with Abdoulaye Doucoure scoring an equalizer with just 20 minutes remaining on the clock. The home team managed to take the lead when Reece James was fouled in the box, and Kai Havertz slotted the penalty home. But when Stamford Bridge was about to erupt in celebrations, the substitute for Everton, Ellis Simms, fired an 89th-minute leveler that would ensure that Graham Potter didn’t run away with the match.

Chelsea’s Game Against Everton Ends In Draw

But, Chelsea does have a few positives to take from this match. The defensive trio of Kalidou Koulibaly, Wesley Fofana, and Benoit Badiashile have been coming into their own with every game. It was on their prowess that the home team managed to boss over their opposition in the first half. Even in attack, they showed enough of their passing capabilities with one-touch exchanges that would suggest that Potter’s instructions were doing the job.

Yet, there were also quite a few negatives that Chelsea would have to work on. The Blues were left hesitant and indecisive when in the opposition’s box. A couple of bad decisions in good positions also cost them a win. Also, towards the end of the game, the Blues looked really weary, while Everton was slowly growing in confidence and speed.
