Real Madrid fell to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge in a 0-2 loss to the English side in the second leg of the Champions League semi-final. On the other hand, both the English teams have advanced to the final from the semi-final.

Real Madrid’s Chances Faded Away

The score ended 3-1 in favor of Chelsea over Real Madrid on aggregate. The English side consistently deserved the win as well over the proceedings of the two legs. As such, the only thing preventing the humiliation of Real Madrid was the wastefulness of Chelsea.

Werner kept struggling in front of the goal as his tap-in was marked offside. However, he did manage to head it in when Kai Havertz’s lobbed shot rebounded off the top bar.

Real Madrid had chances as well in the starting 45 minutes. Karim Benzema got two chances which were both denied by Edouard Mendy, Chelsea’s goalkeeper. After the break, Chelsea got more numerous and decisive chances and could have easily added another goal to the tally. Mason Mount could have scored as well, however, he happened to miss widely, a rare occurrence for the poacher.

Chelsea was not the stereotypical possessive side expected from Thomas Tuchel. Instead, their game-plan accepted that Real Madrid will enjoy long periods of uncontested possession through Toni Kroos and Luka Modric. However, they did not let Real Madrid into the penalty box and take shots from a short distance.

While the clock ticked away, Madrid was apparently running low on ideas as well as energy. Their recent cornerstones Ramos, Modric, and Benzema made basic errors under the pressure from Chelsea.

N’golo Kante also put in another spectacular midfield performance. His dynamics were on full throttle when he started the move that ended with Havertz’s goal. His most impressive feat was possibly how he drove the Chelsea side upwards.
