At the prestigious Kennedy Center Honors, Julia Roberts supported George Clooney by donning a custom dress with his face on it. George Clooney and Gladys Knight will be among this year’s honorees, according to the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington.

The Kennedy Center Honors are finally back in full swing after a five-year hiatus. How can we know for sure? Because very few people brought up the return to normal during the weekend’s celebrations, which ended on Sunday with a ceremony honoring five new honorees that lasted little longer than three hours.

Actually, Sacha Baron Cohen was the only person to be mentioned during the 45th annual Kennedy Center Honors, which will be broadcast on CBS on December 28. The actor/comedian said the following while speaking as the fictional Kazakh journalist Borat, which may have been outside the audience’s comfort zone: “I’m told the president of the United States and A. is here. Trump, where are you? Hey, Borat! We’ll find him. We swear.”

The Washington Post theatrical critic Peter Marks praised the ceremony at this time last year as a “return to something like normal,” with a star-studded throng dressed in black tie and masks. We can eliminate “something like” this year. After four years without a “first couple,” President Biden and First Lady Jill Biden returned for a second time, thanks to the presidential boycott during the Trump administration and the subsequent pandemic, which resulted in a largely virtual ceremony for the 2020 awards (held in May 2021).

Vice President Harris and her husband Doug Emhoff joined them. After taking place at the Library of Congress the previous year, the medallion ceremony on Saturday was back at its proper location at the State Department. And everyone, and by everyone, we mean everyone, appeared to be in the mood to party.

They were fortunate that the ceremony, which honored actor, director, and philanthropist George Clooney, contemporary Christian music sensation turned pop star Amy Grant, singer Gladys Knight, the “Empress of Soul,” Irish rock band U2 (Bono, the Edge, Adam Clayton, and Larry Mullen Jr.), and Cuban American composer-conductor Tania León, was primarily musical in nature.
