Former Vice President Mike Pence said on Friday that he was unaware that there were sensitive papers at his residence in Indiana and that he is “fully responsible” for the security lapse.

Speaking at Florida International University in Miami, Mike Pence stated that after secret documents were discovered at President Joe Biden’s Delaware residence, an examination of his personal files was done.

Mike Pence Has Taken Full Responsibility Of The Documents

We discovered that there were a few papers with sensitive or classified markings scattered throughout my personal papers along the way, he claimed. Pence said he was unaware of the existence of the materials. Additionally, classified materials were discovered at the Florida residence of former President Donald Trump, Pence’s boss.

Mike Pence left the door open to a candidature, while Trump entered the contest for the Republican presidential nomination in 2024. Greg Jacob, Pence’s attorney, informed the National Archives of the records on January 18 and that the FBI had visited the former vice president’s house to retrieve them on January 22, respectively.

According to Pence, “Our national security relies on the correct handling of sensitive and confidential information, and I know that when mistakes are made, it’s critical that they be quickly fixed and disclosed.” The Justice Department is conducting special counsel investigations into Biden, a Democrat whose documents were from his time serving as vice president, and Trump, whose refusal to turn over the items prompted an FBI raid. Both men are being investigated for improper handling of classified materials.

The National Archives is legally obligated to receive the records from each government throughout a presidential transition period. It is forbidden to intentionally erase or hold onto secret information.
