Portland Protesters File Suit Against Trump Administration Over Federal Response

Ever since the death of George Floyd, people have been gathering every night in Portland to protest against racism and the perpetrated injustice in society.

The protests began around the 25h of May, and in July, the government started sending agents to the city to protect the state property.

However, the protesters have now filed a complaint against the United States Department of Homeland Security and its agencies, outlining the latter’s actions as not just intimidating but also violent and abusive.

The complaint was filed on Monday by protesters who also include Wall of Moms, Black Lives Matter, and Don’t Shoot Portland. It has been brought in the United States district court in Columbia. The protesters accuse the agents of misusing their authoritative powers and curbing their freedom of speech and their right to gain justice.

“They have been tear-gassed night after night, left vomiting and unable to eat or sleep because of the toxic poison blasted at them,” one of the several complaints read.

Ted Wheeler, the Mayor of Portland is amongst the people who want the Trump administration to restrict the deployment of these agents without discussing with the local leaders first.
