Rory McIlroy, the Northern Irishman, has won the Wells Fargo Championship. He had last won a tournament in 2019’s November. As always, McIlroy seemingly always knows how to make up for a spell of drought.

The Comeback For Rory McIlroy

Back in 2010, Rory McIlroy had failed to qualify got the year’s Masters. But he went on to make up for it by getting a victory at the earlier Championship at Quail Hollow. Similarly, after getting knocked out from Augusta Nationals on Friday night, Rory McIlroy has done it again after 11 years. He has won at the exact place.

As such, it is no surprise that Rory was breathing deeply when he came to the famous “Green Miles” of Quail Hollow. It is the name given to the last three holes. The victory comes after a drought of 553 days precisely. It also serves as a perfect counter to the widespread fear that McIlroy is in crisis. Rory McIlroy only just became 32 and has proven how temporary form is.

Rory McIlroy got a score of 68 in the closing round. As such, he won the Championship by Wells Fargo while being 10 below par. Recently, his woeful tales have been much publicized. Regardless, this was a timely addition to his trophy collection – the United States PGA Championship starts from Thursday in Kiawah Island. 9 years ago, McIlroy had dominated the tournament at the course.

Although this is the third time Rory has won at Quail Hollow, the significance far outweighs the rest. He had to fight tooth and nail and grind out the victory – a reminder that he is not a golfer who is basking on past glories. He later stated that the fight was never easy. He continued that the drought took a long time to come and the world has changed quite a bit since his last win.
