Trey Lance’s first season as the San Francisco 49ers’ quarterback is over after fewer than five quarters.

Lance shattered his right ankle in the first half of Sunday’s 27-7 victory over the Seattle Seahawks. Lance’s replacement, Jimmy Garoppolo, finished the game and took over as the starter now that Lance is injured.

Kyle Shanahan, the coach, confirmed the injury and said that season-ending surgery for Lance is scheduled for Monday morning.
