US could be in for ‘a bad fall and a bad winter’ if it’s unprepared for a second wave of coronavirus, Fauci warns

Health expert, Anthony Fauci, claimed the coronavirus pandemic will haunt us with a second wave in the coming months.

However, he assured everyone that if countermeasures are placed properly, we can assume that the impact will be more manageable than the first hit.

Dr. Antony Fauci, a leading epidemiologist on the current warned, “If by the time we have put in place all of the countermeasures that you need to address this, we should do reasonably well. If we don’t do that successfully, we could be in for a bad fall and a bad winter.”

Rebound Coronavirus Expected To Take More Lives Than Already Lost

In an interview with CNN, Fauci warned against the lifting of restrictions and stay-at-home orders. He said that if states reopen too quickly, the country may go back to square one and the second wave of coronavirus will not be an easy one to handle.

With over 1 million infected and over 58,000 already dead, the country is expected to see another 72,000 deaths by August, as per health expert analysts.

Fauci further emphasized on the country’s need for widespread testing and coronavirus preventive measures, such as contact-tracing, and isolation measures.

Fauci Claims The Federal Government Needs To Improve Strategies To Deal With Coronavirus

The US is one of the worst-hit in this Covid-19 pandemic. However, it still lags behind Spain and Italy in the number of tests conducted per 1000 people. The US stands at 16.4 tests per 1000; Spain and Italy at 22.3 and 29.7 per 1000 respectively.

Fauci also mentioned that improvement of strategies is crucial at this stage and people who need to be tested should be tested by May or early June.

Concerns arise as the US gets ready to reopen the country, with several states already reopening local businesses and lifting stay-home orders.
