Virginia, Utah residents report receiving unsolicited packets of seeds in the mail reportedly from China

Several residents from Virginia have reported that they received suspicious seeds in their mail. The packet that the seeds were packed in had words that seemed like Chinese script.

The Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services of Virginia has ordered the residents to leave the seeds unplanted. The suspicious seeds have not been identified yet, but authorities believe it to be harmful.

“Taking steps to prevent their introduction is the most effective method of reducing both the risk of invasive species infestations and the cost to control and mitigate those infestations,” stated the agricultural officials.

Fox 13 reported a similar incident earlier. The report stated that Utah residents had also received unsolicited suspicious seeds in their mails.

Several receivers have also mentioned that their seed packets had a label saying that it contained jewelry.

Reports are that the Department of Agriculture and Food from Utah will pair up the Virginia team to investigate the issue.

Better Business Bureau president, Jane Rupp, suggested that the issue could be “brushing.” It’s a scam process that plant companies use to add to their online sales list.
