Kristie Mewis brought joy to her team in the fag end to put USWNT ahead and beat Mexico 1-0 recently at the world championship of CONCACAF.

The USWNT featured in the eight-team tournament and topped Group A and are all set to challenge Costa Rica in the semifinals. USWNT has already gone through to the 2023 Women’s World Cup featuring as the first of the two teams to have qualified.

“I think that’s what makes the U.S. really special is that identity of relentlessness, never say die, really will it in,” Becky Sauerbrun stated in her words. “Luckily tonight the ball bounced in our favor.”

Lizbeth Ovalle of Mexico was red carded for a risky challenge on Rose Lavelle in the 73rd minute. USWNT, however got away lucky as the goal from Mewis appeared to have been offside. However, the review was not made and the goal stood much to the joy of the United States.

“I was very happy to see at the end that we still found a way,”  Vlatko Andonovski, the coach said. “It wasn’t pretty, it wasn’t nice, but in order to win big tournaments, we know that sometimes you just have to find a way, and we were able to do that.”

“If we want to compete on these stages, we have to work in a different way,” Monica Vergara, the coach of Mexico said.
