Three days remain until New Mexico begins awarding qualifying taxpayers tax refunds or stimulus checks worth above $1K.

These refunds, which would be valued above $500 for individual filers and around $1,000 for wedded payers filing together, will be given to New Mexicans who have already paid their taxes for the year 2021. According to KOAT 7, these stimulus checks would be sent either via direct transfers to bank accounts or physical checks, with straight installments beginning in the middle of June and written checks following later. “Prices of basic commodities remain high all over the nation,” stated Gov. Lujan Grisham. Further adding that it was significant to her that New Mexican families benefit from the success that the state is currently enjoying financially.

The TAP self-service gateway on the region’s Revenue and Taxation Department website can be used by a taxpayer to amend their address if they have moved since submitting a 2021 tax return. An alteration of address application can also be delivered to the Revenue and Taxation Department by the taxpayer.

On June 20, stimulus checks will be sent to those who submitted their tax returns in the year 2021 electronically. It is anticipated that paper rebate checks would be published between 20th June and 29th June, after which time they would be taking a little longer to arrive. Taxpayers who altered their banking details after filing their tax rebates in 2021 will get a stimulus check in the mail for their refunds. Taxpayers have until 31st May 2024, to file their unfiled 2021 returns.

  • Residents of New Mexico who filed a 2021 Personal Income Tax (PIT) return and who were not claimed as a dependant on another taxpayer’s form will automatically receive the refunds.
  • Application is not necessary. Issued in mid-June 2023.
