Google will replace some Nest thermostats after ‘w5’ wi-fi issue breaks remote control

Since the November of the past year, some of Google’s Nest thermostats users have been facing a “w5” error, causing connectivity issues. The number of issues reported have been more in the last few weeks than before. Some cases were spotted just post the update, leading to an assumption that the recent update for the Nest thermostats might have caused the error for more owners.

These thermostats are generally used to regulate the home temperature, although remotely. The error wouldn’t affect the appliances directly, but might as well affect the ability to be controlled from a phone or smart speaker.

According to Google, “if a user sees this error and it can’t be resolved through troubleshooting, they are prompted to contact customer support for assistance.”

It can be fixed through the standard measure of reset and through other normal troubleshooting techniques too. Other than that, a hardware replacement is yet another solution, for which Google will bear the cost when and if informed by the customer.
